Dr. Beals was Dominion Astronomer from 1947 to 1964. While a good many of these files relate to routine accounts, magazine subscriptions, equipment order, and so on, there are also draft speeches, reports, and correspondence with other members of the scientific community, including Dr. R.M. Petrie, Dominion Astrophysicist, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, Victoria. Also received with these files was a four volume feasibility study regarding the proposed Mount Kobau National Observatory, British Columbia, with its Queen Elizabeth II Telescope, and numerous photographs.
